A Record of Success

Since coming to office in 2021, Aliya has driven substantial progress at City College, building a stronger foundation for its future. As the college undergoes an accreditation review, Aliya’s unwavering advocacy, expertise in education policy, and record of fighting for students is what City College needs now more than ever to navigate the path forward.

  • In Aliya’s first 100 days, she successfully fought for an additional $1 million of federal grant funds for students during the pandemic and expanded eligibility to include undocumented students
  • Eliminated $2.1 million student debt for over 14,000 students, resulting in students re-enrolling
  • Facilitated strategic partnerships to increase job training programs
  • Advocated for additional data and supports for equity populations
  • Delivered on overdue raises for teachers and staff
  • Eliminate cost barriers for students related to their basic needs (housing, books, transportation, and food)
  • Cancel more student debt for students and increase funding for emergency grants to improve enrollment and retention.
  • Improve educational outcomes for equity populations by monitoring progress towards Student Equity Achievement Plan.
  • Strengthen guided pathways to help all students explore and complete programs aligned with their career and education goals efficiently and affordably.
  • Increase support for the Office of Workforce Development at City College for technical education programs for employment and transfer opportunities.
  • As Chair of Student Success and Policy, Aliya led improvements to the Board’s governing system to increase transparency in decision-making
  • Strengthened financial practices and accountability, resulting in a clean financial audit after 25 years
  • Advocated for college-wide budget study sessions to improve collective decision-making processes
  • Prioritize financial sustainability through balanced budgets with strong fiscal accountability
  • Steer the accreditation process by reviewing and improving governing practices
  • Protect Free City for San Francisco residents and expand eligibility for students that are undocumented or experiencing housing insecurity. 
  • Oversee timely completion and updates to City College’s facilities and updated registration system.
  • Grow student enrollment. 
  • Held 50+ office hours and town halls with students and community members
  • Initiated multiple community partnerships with community based organizations to support food insecurity and housing opportunities for educators and students
  • Connected community members to CCSF’s facilities for shared use. 
  • Strengthen fundraising efforts for City College and advocate for additional financial supports for City College at the local, state, and federal level.
  • Facilitate additional partnerships for shared use of CCSF spaces.
  • Collaborate with local, state and federal policymakers to advocate for innovative solutions to sustain and increase funding for community colleges.
